Is Omar García Harfuch continuing as Secretary of Security as of December 31, 2026?

Market context

Harfuch is today the strongest official in the cabinet. In February, he confirmed the fall of El Mencho, the biggest blow to drug trafficking in the six-year term, and that shielded him. Washington wants him quiet in Security so as not to move the strategy against the cartels. But his own circle pushes him to the Government, a much more comfortable platform for building the project towards 2030. Does García Harfuch hold up in Security until the close of 2026, or does the political call move him to another chair first?

• How it resolvesResolve Yes if Omar García Harfuch is the acting head of the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) as of December 31, 2026, 23:59 (Mexico City time). Resolve No if before that date you resign, are dismissed, change your position, or apply for a license granted or announced for more than 30 calendar days (or if the court is not acting incumbent), according to the DOF or official announcement of the Presidency, even if the formal replacement occurs later. A temporary absence without separation from office (vacation, commission, leave of 30 calendar days or less) does not count as a departure.
