Does the FGR Bring Criminal Charges Against Pío López Obrador Before December 31, 2026?

Market context

Since 2023 the FGR has kept an investigation open on José Pío López Obrador, the former president's brother, and he himself filed an injunction demanding the prosecutor's office decide whether or not to bring charges, accusing it of stalling the case. Investigating and taking a case to court are two different stages. This market resolves only if the FGR brings criminal charges before a judge before the year ends.

Resolution criteria

• How it resolvesResolves Yes if the Attorney General's Office (FGR) brings criminal charges against José Pío López Obrador before a judge (formal indictment or a request to bind him over for trial), or officially announces the exercise of such criminal action, on or before December 31, 2026, 23:59 Mexico City time (05:59:00 UTC on January 1, 2027). Ongoing investigations without court action, summonses, or a determination NOT to bring charges do not count. Resolves No if the FGR does not bring charges before that date, whether because it shelves the case, keeps it under investigation, or concludes without charges.
